It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s humid. It’s disgusting. The only thing that makes the commute bearable is the blast of cold air when you walk into the train car. It feels GOOD. Aside from a quiet car, this is one of the ONLY things I look forward to.
Summer means COLD CARS. Yet there is always the group of yentas who sit towards the center of the train that complain that it’s “too cold” to the conductor. Depending on the conductor who is on duty, the A/C is adjusted and the yentas are happy and the rest of us are uncomfortable.
I am tired of the “temperature wars”. If you’re cold, bring a goddamn fleece and keep it in your bag. The ENTIRE train cannot be kept warm because YOU are cold. If you have a problem, suck it up and get used to it.
I bet the people who complain about this are also the ones who say their offices are too cold. You want to stop feeling cold? WEAR MORE CLOTHES. Do you feel cold? Too bad. The world doesn’t revolve around you. There are other people here too and they are suffering because of your selfishness.
What’s the problem with keeping interior environments at 65 degrees in the summer? Don’t get started with all the wasted energy crap. I don’t want to hear it. When it’s hot outside, I WANT IT COLD INSIDE!!!
What’s the deal with you people who feel the need to sit DIRECTLY behind me when you board an otherwise EMPTY train?
Every day when I board the AM rush train, the entire car is almost empty. There are maybe 10 people in their seats already. The area where I sit, towards the door between train cars, is EMPTY. Most days it is only me sitting in that section.
That doesn’t stop one guy who always runs on to the train as it’s about to leave. He runs on, catches his breath and sits DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. What’s even worse is that sometimes I catch him looking at my computer screen from the “hole” between the seats. I caught him once and he made believe like he wasn’t doing anything. Of course I saw you, asshole.
This has been happening for about a month. I get on, the guy sees me and sits behind me. Yesterday I decided to try something different. Before I left the house, I wet a couple of paper towels. When I parked in the parking lot, I spit into the paper towels and wadded them up. I then rubbed the paper towels on my bumper to get it dirty.
I entered the train and as usual the asshole wasn’t there yet. I tossed the paper towels on the seat he usually takes and left it there. My hope was that he would see the paper towels there and not take the seat because who knows what the hell could be in there.
As usual, the guy runs on and proceeds towards the back of the train towards me. Then he stops. I say to myself, “OH SHIT HE’S NOT GONNA SIT THERE!” but then I see him pick up the wadded paper towels and throw it on the floor across the aisle and it lands under the seat. He then sits behind me as if nothing happened. YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!
You’re probably sitting there saying, “Why don’t you just move if you don’t want him sitting near you”. That’s not the point. I was there first. Why should I have to move? And why the fuck is he looking at what I’m doing on my computer screen?
I’m thinking of other ways to get this guy out of my area. What’s next? Throw water on the seat? Cover it in tape?

Bicycles do not belong on the LIRR or on the subway. Why do people insist on taking their bikes onto the trains? The bikes are for you TO RIDE THEM. The bikes should NOT take up space on any trains, space that is meant for PASSENGERS.
For this post, I will concentrate on the people who take their bikes onto the subway.
There are two types of asshole/douchebag who do this:
Type 1:
The periodic bike rider who rarely rides their bike in the city. This person makes a point to take their bike on a non-rush hour train. They get on near the back of the train car, never in the middle. If they accidentally bump into you, the apologize. In short, they KNOW that they really should not be there and are careful to stay out of your way.
I have no problem with this type of passenger. They are cognizant of what they are doing AND they are careful not to be a nuisance. We need more of this type of rider.
Type 2:
This is the worst type of rider. They take their bike onto the train consistently. They do not board near the rear of the train car. They board WHEREVER THE HELL THEY DAMN WELL WANT. This rider also usually has a massive backpack in addition to the bike. And this backpack usually winds up in your face or bumping into you as the train moves because its owner cannot control it and is a complete asshole.
When the train is moving, this person’s bike tire usually ends up whacking you in the leg (making your pants dirty). Or their handlebars end up in your kidneys. If you say anything to these people about the bike being on the train, you are greeted with a dirty look. They all have an attitude of entitlement that is sickening.
Please keep your fucking bikes and your attitudes OFF of the trains that I ride. I don’t have time for your bullshit. I just want to get to work and get home without feeling like I need to smack someone.
This afternoon, there was another unauthorized person struck on the tracks at Copiague. As of this writing there are still residual delays and they are expected to continue until later tonight.
If you’re expecting anyone home who traveled by train to the east end, expect them to be late because yet another one of our shitizens decided to hang out on the train tracks.
What kind of person does something like this? I understand the mental illness aspect of this and I genuinely feel sorry for those people and their families. These people need help and we should not mock them.
What annoys me is the people who wander onto the tracks drunk or high. And also the people who feel the need to hang out on the train tracks FOR FUN. The people who do this are seriously in need of help. A good kick in the ass will set them straight. People like that don’t deserve our help because they’re beyond hope.
Today on the LIRR, there was a “minor collision” that occurred during the evening rush. Thankfully nobody was hurt. However, the commute was ruined for thousands of people trying to make it home unscathed for the weekend.
The LIRR will try to spin this as a minor occurrence that will occur from time to time given the number of trains that move through Jamaica but I am not believing that. This appears to be a major malfunction of the physical rail road.
It appears as if the switch did not function properly. If the trains were that close together (and presumably on the same track) the switch should not have been thrown to allow both trains on the same track.
Also, since most switching is no longer manually done in Jamaica (since the upgrade a few years ago), the system should be investigated as to why the necessary fail overs were not thrown. Or is there a logical issue in the software that controls the switches for an edge case like this where two trains in opposite directions just happen to be at the same switch while still in motion.
Whatever the investigation finds, it won’t change the fact that YET ANOTHER commute has been ruined by the LIRR. I’m surprised they didn’t blame AMTRAK! HA!
I’m sure there will be more SPIN to come on this one from the LIRR. The President of the LIRR Patrick Nowakowski said, “Obviously, these trains shouldn’t have collided.” Well no shit about that.
Just hope the delays don’t stretch into Monday’s morning commute.
It’s about time to give this another try. I have some ideas to make the blog more interesting. And I have some ideas to make it more insightful and funny.
The blog will mainly be about my trials, tribulations and observations on the LIRR. And it will contain other information and opinions on various topics.
I hope you will enjoy it. My hope is that it will be as fun for you to read as it is for me to write it.

Conductors on the LIRR are quite possibly the stupidest people on earth.
The lazy bastards ‘t open the doors when the train is at the station, so we wait there like assholes until the douchebag in the funny hat decides he wants to open them. On the WH branch, they never remind the passengers in the first two cars that the first two cars don’t stop at their station. Every night we must endure the usual (WAIT! DON’T CLOSE THE DOORS!”) run up the cars….
It gets better. Tonight, the WH train said “Long Beach” on both signs (inside and outside). One announcement was made, but not everyone heard. There were some people on the train who thought it was going to Long Beach, the never got off. Why couldn’t they just turn off the sign? The overheads above the platform were correct. Whatever. Turning them off would have been too fucking hard.

What is it with you morons and your children? Why do you insist on making your children my problem? Why are strollers and children even permitted on rush hour trains?
The other day, (matinee Wednesday of course) , there was a family who was obviously on a day trip. Two kids, in two strollers, on track 16, boarding the 5:23, not good. The brood was also accompanied by two very large bags, which appeared to be larger than their children. Why bother with the strollers if you have bags that large? Just toss the kids in the bags…that’s for another post. The children appeared to be between 2 and 2 and half years old.
I am sitting in one of the seats in the “back” section, where the pulldowns are. The “family” passes me, moving towards the yard. I breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe they will go in another car and leave us alone. A minute passes, and they appear again, walking in the other direction, staring into the windows. This is not good. They are looking into the car I’m in.
Of course, they get on. Or at least they try to get on. There were already people standing in vestibule. The woman loudly announces her intention to get on, as if they poor guy already standing there has committed a crime by being there. “EXCUSE ME SIR!”, she says. He grumbles and steps out so she can get on with her husband (why are they always silent) and the two kiddies, the strollers, and the bags.
Now they have entered. There were two people sitting at the pulldowns, one on each side of the car. The woman proceeds to give them the death stare until they notice her…..
