Ovens With Seats

Every morning, we get on ovens with seats that get us to work. They’re not train cars, they’re OVENS. For whatever reason, the heat has been on this week in our beloved Fail Road cars. Why is the heat on? It has been chilly in the mornings this week, but it is also very humid. This makes it feel much hotter in the cars.

Also, (for me in the mornings), the train is closed for a while before we get on. The air is stagnant. Blasting more hot stuffy air into it will not make things any better. Asking the conductor to make it cooler is worthless. You’re either met with a grunt or they ignore you.

I don’t think it’s asking too much to have the temperature regulated to a normal level. If they can’t give us good service, if they can’t get us to work or home on-time on a regular basis, if they don’t tell us what’s going on when we don’t move for 5-10 minutes…if they can’t make our commute without insanity and drama, then the least those nitwits can do is turn a nob.

also, about this time of year, i think the Maintenance of Equipment (MoE) department goes through each train car and de-activates the Air Conditioners and Activates the Heating systems. Thats right, either the AC system operates OR the heating system operates, they are never both active at the same time. In the summer they turn off the heaters and turn on the AC’s and in the winter they shut down the AC’s and turn on the heaters. thats why on some really cold nights in the summer the heaters still wont come on.

Its sad but its not that simple, the HVAC system on the M-7 is so overly-complicated that they dont even give any temperature control ability to the crew, everything is controlled by the computer. All the crews can do is either turn it on or off, from there everything is regulated based on the computer programs and logorithims that control the function of the HVAC. its just not like your home heating system where you can turn it up or down until you are comfortable. i wish it was, it would make it much easier on the crew. people think we have a lot more control over temperature than we actually do. just remember though, when you have a hot or cold car, you can just move to another car, but the crew might be stuck working through those hot or cold cars all day (often times a crew will keep the same equipment for an entire days run), if anyone would want to make the temp hotter or colder it would be them.
