The Fail Road’s Reply To My Complaint

My complaint:
Customer (Phil….) – 08/15/2007 06:56 AM
Does anyone know why the 7:45 Jamaica-Penn “express” was held for 15
minutes today at Jamaica? The train arrived at 7:50 (5 mins late in
the real world). Just before it arrived, the 7:45 to FBA (my train
from WH) was last called and left. No announcements made about it
being late, nothing.

So the 7:45 arrives and we sheeple get on…and it sits there. After
a few minutes, we saw important looking Fail Road types with walkie
talkies squawking, shiny badges, serious looks and walking down the
platform as if their feet were stuck in gooey glue.

There was meeting of the brains around the 8th car (these serious
Fail Road types and the crew). And still, no announcement. But
wait! There’s a train on track 4! It says Penn Station! That’s the
train I wanna be on! Now there’s a steady trail of morons running
out of the train to track 4. What they didn’t notice was that it was
a “No passengers” train. I heard someone say, “maybe they’ll stop
here and help us”. HAHAHAHAAH!!! You are so naive lady. Said morons
file back into train. There were other trains that arrived like the
7:53, but by the time it was announced and I ran down the platform up
the steps (with the leadfeet) and down the steps again, I would have
missed it).

So, it’s now about 8:05, the meeting outside the train is still
ongoing. I wonder what they’re speaking about? Astrophysics, the
Mets, the Yankees, where to go for lunch?

A lady by the door then asks a collector if we’re leaving soon and he
says, “yeah, we are”. She goes, “now”? He says, “whenever we feel
like leaving” NICE!

So we finally leave, no announcement, no apology, Nothing. Tickets
weren’t even taken. If they were, there would only be shreds of the
collectors uniforms left.

Total travesty. How come there was no announcement made? How come
we were held there for so long. What was the problem?

I was 10 minutes late. While I do not punch a time card, it would be
nice to know what the problem was this time. I didn’t see any rain,
or snow. Could it have been “switch problems” or the usual shoddy
service we have come to know from the FAIL ROAD.
You have a lot of work ahead of you, Ms. Williams…..it’s been
broken since 1834.

Response (Jennifer Uihlein) – 08/28/2007 03:05 PM
Dear Mr. L:

Thank you for your e-mail. Please accept my apologies for your
dissatisfaction with the service provided on August 14, 2007. We
recognize that effective communication with our employees and
customers is essential, and on that end, we regret that we did not
meet those needs. As information, on the date you referenced, the
train scheduled to depart Jamaica at 7:45 AM and arrive at Penn
Station was delayed in Locust Manor due to an ill passenger. The
customer was removed upon arrival at Jamaica Station.

I appreciate your understanding in this matter and hope that your
future travels are more satisfactory in nature.

Sincerely,

J. Uihlein

My comment:
Next time, just tell us that the train is being delayed for whatever reason. Don’t just leave us hanging there.
Typical. What else should we expect. I bet the passenger was sick because of the shit service.

Recently you requested personal assistance from our on-line supportcenter. Below is a summary of your request and our response.Subject—————————————————————You’re all a goddamned joke.Discussion Thread—————————————————————Response (Kevin Kade) – 02/06/2008 12:11 PMMr. Dillon:We have received your email regarding your dissatisfaction with the MTA LIRR.We regret the delays and cancellations that occurred during last night’s rush hour. They were the result of problems in one of the East River tunnels connecting Manhattan with Long Island that took one of the four tunnels out of service for approximately 30 minutes. The LIRR shares these tunnels with Amtrak (which owns Penn Station and the tunnels) and New Jersey Transit. If one of them is taken out of service during the rush hour, the LIRR’s schedule is severely impacted … especially if the problem occurs in one of the tunnels that is designated for our trains. That’s what happened last night … and we ended up cancelling and combining about 20 trains in order to keep operating. As background, during the rush hours the LIRR operates at or close to full capacity … with all available tracks, trains and personnel in use. As you can imagine, if we lose a significant portion of our track capacity when we are operating at capacity then something has to give. For us it means cutting the number of trains departing Penn Station and for our customers it means late trains that are crowded.Conductors have numerous responsibilities beyond ticket selling and ticket taking. It is the conductor – not the Engineer – who is in charge of the train. The Conductor is responsibile for technical and diagnostic tasks, including a mandatory brake test each time the train leaves a terminal. Additionally, the Conductor is responsible for the safe operation of the doors, making announcements, troubleshooting the equipment if there is a mechanical failure, communicating with Supervisors and Train Dispatchers via radio, assisting mobility impaired customers as they enter or exit by placing a bridgeplate over the gap, and answering questions from customers who need assistance. They are responsible for summoning medical aid or police assistance if an emergency takes place on the train, andthey will wait with a sick customer until medical aid arrives. You should note that this list of their duties does not include cleaning the trains. That task is assigned to our car cleaning crews. In addition, you might want to keep in mind that many of our trains make multiple runs on any given day before they can be pulled into a yard and cleaned. Trash that has been left behind by customers on earlier trains is therefore a problem for the customers on the next run, or those who remain onboard after a mess has been made by a fellow customer. It is the other customers who suffer from this kind of behavior. As for the extra customers in NYC yesterday, we added trains and crews during the day in order to help the parade-goers get in and out of Manhattan. Hope this information helps, and, once again, we regret the impact these delays had on your evening.K.Kade/PublicAffairsAuto-Response – 02/06/2008 09:32 AMIf you require travel directions, the fastest and best way to get them is to call the Long Island Rail Road travel hotline at 718-217-LIRR (718-217-5477); 516-822-LIRR (516-822-5477); or 631-231-LIRR (631-231-5477), 7 days a week, 24 hours a day for fare and schedule information. An extra million people in the city for a parade? Let’s cancel the 6:05 to freeport. Less trains for more people. Then let’s take the next train (6:10 to wantagh) out of service. So now I left 20 seven year old hockey players on ice for practice with no coach. Typically, there wasnt even an apology by anyone. Instead they came on the air to remind me about the “Clean Train Campaign”. In a word or two: Go fuck yourself. You unimaginably greedy and self-rewarding dirtbags. I have a friend who’s cousin is a conductor on your ‘trains’ and im aware of what he makes. So tell me then: What exactly do your conductors ‘do’ for all that money. Punch tickets? On the busiest of days theydont even do that. They simply look at monthlys and walk up an aisle. Worse still on days like yesterday when you cart us like pigs packed on a trolley, they cant even do that bc they cant get up the aisle bc you packed too many people on the train. So they do nothing?! They sit in their little room and wait for us to leave?! For the kinda money you are paying them and CHARGING US (for some reason ten times a subway ride for the same experience of being packed in like animals for an hour) – Im making it my personal goal to make as much of a mess as possible on your trains from here on out. Im gonna spread newspapers across aisles – im gonna buy two cups of coffee in the morning so I can spill one on the floor. If you wont make these bumbling idiots work for their pay then I will. Wedeserve better. And you dont give a shit about our lives – our commute – and our experience. And you want to RAISE THE PRICE !!!!??? ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE… You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Piss On The Train Campaign begins tonight…Burn in hell scumbags.
